James Wrixam McIlvaine is a seasoned trial attorney who has practiced before the Courts of Glynn, McIntosh, Camden, Wayne, Jeff-Davis, Appling, Liberty, Evans, Long, Bryan and Brantley counties. He concentrates his practice on Criminal Defense, General Litigation , Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property protection for local businesses. Mr. McIlvaine also offers a vast array of professional legal services for the people of Coastal Georgia. He is dedidicated to providing the great service that local consumers demand from their personal attorney. Mr. McIlvaine has extensive criminal trial experience gained while fighting for clients in the criminal courts of San Diego, California and while serving the people of Coastal Georgia as a Public Defender in both the Atlantic and Brunswick Judicial Circuits. Prior to practicing in coastal Georgia, McIlvaine concentrated on intellectual property work at Wuesthoff & Wuesthoff and Boehmert & Bohmert, two intellectual Property firms specializing in international trademark and patent prosecution in Munich, Germany.
Mr. McIlvaine attended the University of Delaware and graduated with a B.A. in English Literature/Journalism in 2002. He obtained his J.D., with honors, from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2005. While in Law School, Mr. McIlvaine served as Vice President of the Student Bar Association, President of the Trial Lawyers Association, and Editor-in-Chief of THE INFORMER. He also received Pro Bono Honors in 2004 and 2005 for public service on behalf of the people of San Diego and actively participated as a volunteer attorney for San Diego Teen Court and the Vietnam Veterans of San Diego.
After passing the Georgia Bar Exam, Mr. McIlvaine obtained his LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law from the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center in 2006. While in Munich, Germany, Mr. McIlvaine served as Vice President of the Student Body and Delegate to the European Intellectual Property Institutes Network (EIPIN) making it to the Semi-Finals at the annual Moot Court Tournament held at the European Patent Office.
Mr. McIlvaine is an active member of both the Atlantic and Brunswick Judicial Circuit Bar Associations. In addition, he serves as a volunteer attorney for the Georgia Lawyers for the Arts and supports the McIntosh County Art Association and the Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Association. He serves as Public Relations Chair for the McIntosh County Republican Party.
